What Our EDPs Are Made Of
Almost all Reef and Lattafa fragrances we stock are Eau de Parfum (EDP) concentration, which uses a denatured alcohol (ethanol) base to carry and disperse the scent. This is standard across the vast majority of Arabian, French and designer perfumery — it is not unique to these two brands.
Alcohol-Based Perfume and Religious Practice
Views on wearing alcohol-based perfume vary among Muslim scholars and individuals. Some hold that perfume alcohol, which is not derived from grapes or dates and is not intended for drinking, is treated differently to consumable alcohol and is permissible to wear. Others prefer to avoid it entirely and opt for alcohol-free attars and oils. The alcohol in an EDP evaporates within seconds of application, leaving only the fragrance oils on the skin.
